It’s the meme generation!

That’s right. Sharing a meme takes the place of long-winded reactions to current issues. The wittier, the better. And the vast population of netizens are particularly good at matching the perfect meme with any given topic.

This is the very reason why the marketing world is taking notice. Netflix film, Bird Box, is the perfect example of how memes can be a worthy addition to one’s marketing arsenal. Upon its release, a virtual infestation of Bird Box memes proliferated through social media. This was a major factor that contributed to the film’s success.

This meme trend is already palpable across official social pages of various industries. We’re talking about Disney, Amazon, Hyundai, Ruffles, even World of Warcraft. Memes have taken over and it’s high time that you also consider injecting memes in your social media marketing strategy!

Be mindful of your brand

While memes are excellent tools to generate interest, you can’t just use them indiscriminately. The first thing that you should consider before sharing a meme is if it reflects your brand. Yes, riding on the wave of a popular meme may work from time to time but not all the time. Your meme must still remain unique to your brand.

Just like any successful marketer, feeling the pulse of your target audience should come as second nature. The meme you decide to incorporate in your social media content should be aligned with what is current. That makes your post a lot more relevant and relatable.

At times, there are really good memes out there that you can repurpose to fit your brand’s narrative. Jumping on the bandwagon can also earn you publicity points. Be as witty and creative so you can still stand out,

Your own target audience can be a vast resource of memes! Make it a contest with interesting prizes to generate more participation. You get to hit two birds with one stone. On one hand, you are engaging your customers while on the other, you stand the chance to receive awesome memes.
